CHIME/CHIME+ Programs
Programs Overview
The Cultivating Healthy Intentional Mindful Educators (CHIME) and CHIME + Families (CHIME+) Programs was designed in equitable collaborations with community partners to support individual resilience and improving well-being across different populations (e.g., educators and caregivers). Both programs are informed by contemplative sciences, rooted in reflective practices, such as mindfulness and self-compassion to cultivate greater emotional well-being for caregivers in contexts of schools and home. The program aims to:
- Equip caregivers with young children feasible in-the-moment techniques and tools to support their regulation of stress (e.g., breathing exercises). Practices learned include: mindfulness of breath, body, thoughts and emotions as well as practices related to loving-kindness toward self and others.
- Cultivate greater emotional awareness of self and others within interpersonal relationships (e.g., caregiver-child) and attunement to their own needs and well-being.
- Delivered in a group format to cultivate a greater sense of social support for participating caregivers.
SocioEmotional Learning
Collaborative CASEL Wheel
CHIME/CHIME+ sessions support the core competencies of social emotional learning (SEL) developed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). CASEL has engaged in many reviews of evidence- based strategies that can effectively promote adults and students (children) SEL.
SEL is promoted by focusing on five SEL competencies: self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision- making, self-management and relationship skills (CASEL, 2017).
